Writing Center

The Writing Center, located in Heelan Hall 338, is available to all Briar Cliff students for improving their academic communication. The center provides one-on-one peer mentoring for papers, presentations, discussion boards, and any assignment with a written component. Students are strongly encouraged to bring their work to the center for a 30-minute session with a mentor. 
Our mission in the Writing Center is to support Briar Cliff's community of writers by empowering those we serve to think critically and to write articulately as a part of an ongoing process of self-awareness and self-expression. We are here to make the words count.

Service Level Commitment/Turnaround

  • Walk-ins – same day, depending on staffing
  • Zoom Sessions – 48 hours
  • Emailed assignments with written feedback – 72 hours

Writing Center Hours

The Writing Center is open the second week of the semester through the week before finals during the following days/times: 

Monday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Tuesday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Thursday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Friday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Saturday: closed

Sunday: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

We recognize that some students may live off-campus or have scheduling conflicts. To ask a question, schedule a Zoom appointment, or submit a paper for review, please email writing.center@briarcliff.edu. 

If you need feedback on an assignment, please include the following information in your email:

  • Your name and phone number
  • The course number or name
  • A short description of what you need help with
  • When you are available to discuss the paper via Zoom (optional)
  • Your paper as a file attachment
